EXPLANATION OF THE DIOCESAN LOGO

The golden pentagon shaped object at the top, shows the mitre of the Bishop who is the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese.
 
The curved head black object shows his staff of authority but a tender stick with which he gives direction and brings back to the fold erring sheep.
 
The black cross shows the badge of our Christian life, we carry our cross everyday and follow Jesus and “by this, they will know that you’re my disciples”. (John 13:35)
 
The red signs P and X is the symbol of Christ the Anointed who is the head of the Church.
 
The picture of the church there shows the importance and antiquity of the mother church in our area. St Joseph from which the seed of faith sprouted and grew in our Diocese such that almost all the churches in the Diocese took their heritage from this very church.
 
The figure of a human being in black shows the image of Blessed Michael Cyprian Iwene Tansi who was one of the first generation Christians in this area and whose influences has not left this area.
 
The two black stripes beside him show his habit as a monk, the scapula worn by the Cistercians.
 
The golden star sitting on the sea shows Our Lady who is the star of the sea. She is the Mother of the Church and has special patronage for our Diocese.
 
The sea beneath and the boat show the special mark of our Diocese, being a riverine area.
