In 1921, the first missionary station was set up at ifite Awkuzu on a piece of land provided by Chief Patrick Igwebuike. The land was cleared and a teacher’s quarters and a church was erected. In the year 2008, St. Michael’s outstation was made a parish with very Rev. Fr. Josephat Nzekwesi as her first Parish priest.
In 1935, the Catholic stations in Awkuzu were amalgamated by Rev. Fr. Lydane and a central station located at Eke-Ata (post office). The new station was called St. Raphael’s mission.
In 1966, Mgsr. Nwibegbuna Joe arrived Awkuzu from Nmewi and saw the need to create three more parishes in Awkuzu. On 12th January, 2008, St. Michael’s outstation was raised to the status of a parish with Rev. Fr. Josephat Nzekwesi as it’s first parish priest.
The following Pious societies were introduced in the parish, namely: Sacred Heart League, Legion of Mary, Blue Army, Charismatic Renewal, Block Rosary Crusade, Tansi Solidarity Movement, Purgartorian Society, St. Jude Society, Precious Blood.
