Rev Fr George Ekwunife
Birth: born on 3rd
march 1958 and was baptised on March 5th 1958 at Benin city he is the second
child and son amongst the three son’s in the family of four children begotten
by his parents late Pa Josephat Nwoye Ikejiofor Ekwunife and late Mrs. Rebecca Oyibo Ekwunife a native
of Awkuzu town. Fr George had is primary education in St Michael and St Raphael
Primary Schools Awkuzu from 1971 to 1974. George as a junior seminarian. Enter St
Paul Seminary at Umunuko Ukpor 1974 and came over to All Hallows seminary 1975
and finished up 1979 after school WASCE in June 1979 and in September 1979
George was sent to Holy Trinity Cathedral to begin one year apostolic work in
Archdiocesan Secretariat as P.R.O and finished has apostolic work September
1980. as a senior seminarian George was sent to Bigard Memorial Seminary
Ikot-Ekpene to begin his philosophical studies which he ended in 1984 and was
sent to Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu to begin his theological studies which
he finished in 1988, during all his senior seminary career George did his
apostolic work in the following parishes:

Fr George as a junior seminarian
opened the Holy Trinity Book Centre, Onitsha, 1980. He became the pioneer
parish priest to St Alphonsus Parish Nkpor Uno from 1996-1998. During this
period, Fr George experienced armed robbery attack, resulting in the loss of
much personal property. In 1998 he was transferred to St Paul’s Parish Ideani
and built up the Parish House to standard level and painted it, to open new
parishes is not an easy task.
Projects
Accomplished by Fr George
In 1992 Fr George built up the
new Fathers House at Igbariam and roofed it, and started the new church
building which he was able to bring to lintel level
In
1996 Fr George was sent to St Alphonsus Parish Nkpor Uno where he completed the
new Fathers House and secured it with a fence.
In
1999 Fr George was transferred to St Paul’s Parish Ideani where he resumed work
on a long abandoned Fathers House building project. He completed it and was
able to pack into it in 2001. In 2003, he visited the United State of America
for summer holidays.
Fr
George’s hobbies include: Physical
exercise, taking a long walk, table tennis, and yoga, interacting with people
in difficult situations especially the widows and orphans around him,
traveling, reading, and writing books. He has three books to his credit. They
are:

Practical and Catechetical Guide for successful Christian Marriage (published)

Physical Exercise and Healthy Living (published)
3.
Human Suffering, Its Meaning and Significance through the Cross (unpublished)
4.
Shorter and Meditative from of Stations of the Cross in English with Historical
Background of the Stations of the Cross (unpublished).
Fr. George’s personality is
complemented by firmness in every circumstance especially for the truth, even
if this will cost his life. To know Fr George cannot be complete without this
fact. He fights for the cause of truth and justice. It is also pertinent to
note that Fr George built up the abandoned church in St Francis Ifite Aguleri
and dedicated the church in 2018,
In
2020 October 14 Fr George was posted to Nando St Joan of Arc Parish Nando,
since his arrival in 2020 he has done a good number of projects, including
fencing round the church compound installing a gate and building of a new
Chapel of Perpetual Adoration.
Fr
George has also introduced First Saturday devotion to the Catholic Women
Organization and also First Friday devotion to Sacred Heart of Jesus members,
as well as Block Rosary Congress. He also set up a permanent Ordination
Committee based in Nando centre. Fr George has processed a total of six groups
for First Holy Communion and hosted one pastoral visit on May 23, 2021, with
His Lordship Bishop Denis Isizoh visiting.
