In 1996,Late Mgsr. Joe Nwibegbunam, the parish priest of St. Raphael’s Catholic church, Awkuzu conducted census in Aand observed that Awkuzu was fit for at least three more parishes. It was misunderstood as a move to split Awkuzu into autonomous communities but was later discussed extensively during the parish council meeting held on 16th December, 1996.
The first parish created was St. Peter’s Umudioka Awkuzu followed by St. Michael’s Awkuzu and then St. Patrick’s parish, Awkuzu by his Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Albert Obiefuna.
On 15th January, 2005 St. Patrick’s station was elevated to the status of a parish with the arrival of the pioneer parish priest, Rev. Fr. Stephen Akujiobi. As the pioneer, he did the initial planning, surveying and landscaping of the entire parish compound. He complete the furnishing of the Frs. House and built a temporary church which was at the same time utilized as school building. He then laid the foundation stone for an ultramodern church building.
