St. Andrew Catholic Church Omasi Uno in St Mulumba Deanery, Catholic Diocese of Aguieri is a parish located in Ayamelum Local Government Area, in the Anambra State, Nigeria. The church has a rich and vibrant history, rooted in the missionary work of the Catholic Church in the area. The people of Oma si Uno are mostly peasant farmers, who survive through their yearly farming activities.
St Andrew Catholic Church, Oma si Uno had been under different dioceses, and parishes as a station, before her present existence in Agu leri Diocese. From the beginning of its creation in 1936 as a station, St Andrew was under Onitsha Archdiocese. After the Bia fran War, because of some pastoral reasons, St Andrew Parish became under St James Parish Aku Enugu Diocese with Fr Raphael Eze as the proper pastor. Further, after the creation of the Nsuka Diocese, they became part of the diocese, first under a Parish in Nibo, and later under Christ the King Parish Adani with Fr George as the proper pastor, and later came back to Onitsha Archdiocese on 25th November 1998, under St Andrew Parish Ifte Ogwari with Fr Celestine Izunna as the pastor in charge.
St Andrew was created as a parish from St. Anthony Parish Ifte Ogwari in 2007 with Rev. Fr Fidelis Chiefe as its pioneer Parish Priest. This was midwifed by Rev. Fr Patrick Ezelfedi, the then Parish Priest of St. Anthony Parish Ifte Ogwari. The contributions of the pioneer Parish Priest Rev. Fr Fidelis Chiefe in standing the Parish on its feet cannot be overemphasized. At creation, the Parish had no house. He therefore lived in the house donated by Mr Chukwuma Okafor. He watered the ground for effective take-off of the Parish through prayers and other spiritual exercises. He later moved from Mr Chukwuma Okafor’s house to the decked uncompleted Parish building where so many of his documents were destroyed by rain. With the transfer of the pioneer Priest out of the Parish, the second Parish Priest, Rev. Fr Cosmas Muodum took over the mantle of leadership and stood the Parish on its feet. He completed the father’s house and attracted Madonna Secondary School to the Parish. With the transfer of Rev. Fr Cosmas Muodum out of the Parish, Rev. Fr Benedict Uchegbu took over the administration of the Parish. He arrived at St. Andrew Parish Omasi-Uno on the 13th of Oct 2018 and he celebrated his First Solemn Mass on 14th Oct. 2018. Fr Benedict consolidated both the spiritual and physical patrimony the other parish priests began, parishes the school, the beginning of the new church structure after the demolition of the old building, etc.,
Presently St Andrew Parish Omasi Uno has become part of the newly created Diocese of Aguleri. Fr Aloysius Soribe Chinweike, USOA a religious from the University Sons of Assumption Institute is the present parish administrator. He officially resumed on the 14th of October 2023.
