The Catholic Church came to Omor in 1919 when an Irish missionary Rev. Fr Mac Namar opened a church at Akaladi Omor called Christ the King church Omor. In 1936 his successors Rev. Fr Fearal and Rev. Fr Joseph Delaney opened school at Akaladi Omor which was called Christ the King School Omor. Rev. Fr Obeleagu (later Monsignor) gave the School that name. Between 1947 and 1951, Rev. Fr Edward Aghaji was in charge of the church. Rev. Fr Edward Aghaji administered CKC Omor from Aguleri parish.
In 1947, Rev. Fr Iwene Tansi was in charge of Aguleri parish and administered Christ the King Church Omor from Aguleri, i.e. Omor was an outstation of Aguleri parish then. In 1951, Ayamelum clan of which Omor was a member, was transferred to Nsukka Division from Onitsha Division. In 1953 CKC was placed under Aku parish carved out of Nsukka Parish.
Rev. Fr O’Keefe, Rev. Fr Hermitte, Rev. Fr Quinn and Rev. Fr Mongos Anichie administered CKC from Aku parish. In 1960, Akiyi Parish was carved out of Aku Parish and Christ the King Church Omor was placed under Akiyi Parish and late Monsignor Raphael Eze was in charge of Akiyi parish then. Monsignor Eze built Christ the King School/Church. During the Nigerian civil war refugees crowded into Ifite-Ogwari and Umerum and consequently two priests were sent to look after the faithful. Rev. Fr Cyprian Charles Ikeme was at Umerum while Rev. Fr Moses Orakwudo was at Ifite-Ogwari. In 1970 to 1973 after the civil war, Rev. Fr C. Aleke became the priest in charge of CKC Omor which was then under Nimbo Parish and later in 1971 CKC Omor was moved to Ifite Ogwari parish, but without a resident parish priest.
From 1973 to 1974, Rev. Fr George Dine was posted to Nimbo parish. He organized the priestly ordination of Rev. Fr Ben Okwu Eboh in 1974. Ben Okwu Eboh was the first indigenous priest from Ayamelum clan. Between 1974 and 1975, Rev Monsignor Ferdinand and Okpalalbekwe were in charge of CKC followed by Rev. Fr Okonkwo 1975-1976, Rev. Fr Sylvester Ogu from 1976 to 1977, Rev. Fr B. Ogugua 1978 to 1981. In 1981, Ifite Ogwari Parish was given Rev. Fr Benjamin Mbata as the first resident parish priest. All other Ayamelum Churches were under Ifite-Ogwari parish between 1983 and 1986.
Rev. Fr Charles Ukagha took over the administration of CKC Omor and laid the foundation stone of the current Christ the King parish house (Rectory). CKC recorded a remarkable growth during his tenure. The next parish priests who administered CKC from Ifite-Ogwari parish was Rev. Fr Evaristus Nwamadi (1986–1990).
In 1990, Christ the King Omor was made a parish with Umumbo, umuerum, and Anaku as its outstations. His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr Okobo, the Bishop of Nsukka Diocese made CKC a parish with Rev. Fr Ambrose Okechukwu Azegba as the first resident parish priest. Other parish priests who served at Christ the King Parish (CKP) Omor included: Rev. Fr Emeka Ozioko (1993 – 1994). Rev. Fr Willy Odo (1994 – 1997), Rev. Fr Joseph Ugwuanyi (1997 – 1998).
In 1998 (25th November), CKP Omor moved from Nsukka Diocese to Onitsha Archdiocese. The Parish priests under Onitsha Archdiocese included: Rev. Fr Paul Obiaga (1998 – 2003). Rev. Fr Patrick Okwumuo served as a parish vicar under Fr Paul Obiaga (2001 – 2007). Rev. Fr John Omuta succeeded Fr Obiaga (2003 – 2006). Rev. Fr Bedemore Obiekezie (September 2006). In October 2006, Fr Vincent Obidinnu took over (on relief duty) 2006 – 2007). Rev. Fr Norbert Ifeanyichukwu Chilobe succeeded them (2007 – 2012), Rev. Fr Gabriel Okoye (2012 – 2018), followed by Rev. Fr Patrick Egwuatu (2018 – 2023).
Christ the King Parish Church Omor was dedicated on April 2012 by the Archbishop, Most Rev Valerian Maduka Okeke. SS Peter and Paul Umumbo, St Mary’s Unuorum and St Josephs Anaku, outstations of CKP, later all became independent parishes. From Christ the King Parish, Omor were carved out St Luke and St Paul’s Outstations that are today Parishes.
With the creation of Aguleri Diocese in March 2023, and the installation of its first Bishop, Most Rev. Denis Chidi Isizoh, Christ the King Parish Omor automatically fell under Aguleri diocese. The first posting for pastoral assignment by Bishop Isizoh saw Rev. Fr Charles Izuakor as the first Parish priest of Christ the King Parish, Omor, under Aguleri Diocese.

6. Zone Six – St Francis of Assisi

As at September 2023, the population of the parish is estimated to be about 880 persons.
